Eagles Aim For Weekend Sweep Against Halifax
The Cape Breton Eagles will look to sweep their provincial rivals when they face off tonight at Centre 200.
This evening’s game is the second in a weekend set, as last night the Eagles topped the Mooseheads 5-3. Five different players scored in the victory for the Eagles and Nathan Larose paced the attack on the blueline with a three point effort.
Coach Jake Grimes gave a new look to his Eagles club- switching Ryan Francis onto a line with Liam Kidney and Émile Hegarty-Aubin while Connor Trenholm moved to play with Félix Lafrance and Shawn Element. Both players figured into the scoring- in addition to scoring the tying goal on the power play, Francis recorded an eye popping ten shots on netl, while Trenholm scored the winning goal.
By contrast all three of Halifax’s goals were scored with their top line of Zachary L’Heureux, Elliot Desnoyers, and Jordan Dumais on the ice. (When Halifax defeated Cape Breton on opening night, five different Mooseheads scored in the win.)
Another forward in the Mooseheads line-up last night was a familiar one to Eagles fan- Membertou’s Sonny Kabatay. Kabatay played last season with Halifax as a QMJHL rookie but was cut from the club heading into this season. With injury issues up front Kabatay has been called up for the weekend.
Coming into this evening’s game, the Eagles are third in the Maritime Division with a record of 3-4 (2-2 at home). Halifax is in fourth place with a record of 2-4-1 (1-2 on the road). The Eagles have won two of three meetings, splitting the two at Centre 200 and winning the game in Halifax in overtime.
