Yan the hero as Cats take 2-1 series lead with overtime victory
With their best-of-seven first round series tied at 1-1, the Shawinigan Cataractes went to battle on the road against the Halifax Mooseheads at the Halifax Forum, Tuesday night. The Cataractes climbed back from a 2-0 deficit to take the win 3-2 in overtime and grab a 2-1 series lead.
Timo Meier broke the scoreless tie at 16:48 of the opening frame. The powerplay goal was assisted by Danny Moynihan and Nikolaj Ehlers.
Two minutes into the second period, the Mooseheads scored another goal on the man advantage. This time it was Danny Moynihan with his third post-season goal of 2015 to make it 2-0 for the home side. Ehlers and Meier had the helpers.
Just past the midway mark of the period Nicholas Welsh potted his first goal of the playoffs to cut the lead to 2-1. Christophe Lalonde and Pascal Aquin had the assists.
A minute later Dennis Yan tied the game at two with his first post-season goal. Assists were given to Lalonde and Giovanni Fiore.
The third period saw no goals scored and we remained tied at 2-2 after 60 minutes, meaning we were headed for overtime.
In overtime it was Yan back at it again as he was the hero scoring the overtime winner at 10:48 of the extra frame with a rocket of a wrister that beat Mooseheads netminder Eric Brassard. Welsh and Lalonde notched helpers.
Game four goes tomorrow night, Wedesneday, at the Halifax Forum. Puckdrop is set for 6pm eastern time.
