Third period propels Cataractes over Drakkar
SHAWINIGAN, Que. – The Cataractes finished of their weekend on Sunday playing host to the rebuilding Baie-Comeau Drakkar. The offense exploded for a 5-1 victory in front of 3,386 fans at Centre Gervais Auto.
Gabriel Gagne got the scoring started 4:50 into the contest finding the back of the net for the 13th time this season. Gabriel Sylvestre and Samuel Girard added assists on the goal.
The Drakkar responded on a powerplay at 14:38 as Vincent Lavoie beat Mikhail Denisov. Samuel Thibault and Matthieu Desautels got the helpers.
One goal was scored in the second period and it came from Alexis D’Aoust’s stick at the 14 minute mark. His 41st of the 2015-16 season put the Cataractes ahead 2-1. Assists on the go-ahead goal went to Gagne and Anthony Beauvillier.
Beauvillier scored 30 seconds into the final frame and Alex Pawelczyk got a powerplay goal at 9:46 to push the score to 4-1. D’Aoust and Gagne assisted on the captains’ goal, while helpers went to Beauvillier and Girard on the powerplay marker.
Brandon Gignac and Charles Taillon helped set up the clincher for Samuel Asselin who put it into the open cage for the empty-netter. That accounted for the 5-1 final score.
