Rouyn-Noranda takes game two after long delay
ROUYN-NORANDA, Que. – Game two of the Presidents Cup final didn’t come without issues. With the Huskies leading the series 1-0, they battled the Cataractes Friday night at Iamgold Arena.
Francis Perron set up Peter Abbandonato for his fourth of the playoffs putting the Huskies in front 1-0 seven minutes into the game. Anthony Beauvillier tied it a minute later for Shawinigan with Alexis D’Aoust getting the assist.
Later in the frame A.J. Greer found the back of the net to restore the Huskies lead, 2-1. Gabriel Fontaine and Jeremy Lauzon got helpers. The first period of play would end that way with Rouyn-Noranda still leading. However, that is all the hockey that would be played on Friday night.
The second period never got started as a pipe under the ice broke and coolant leaked onto the ice surface. After several minutes of delay, the game would be postponed and crews went to work for the rest of the night to fix the pipe. It was determined that the game would resume Saturday afternoon with the Huskies up 2-1 at the start of the second period.
Just under eight minutes into the second period on Saturday, Greer potted his second of the game and gave the Huskies a 3-1 advantage. Perron pushed the lead to 4-1 early in the third period and that’s how it would end as Rouyn-Noranda took a 2-0 series lead.
The series would then shift to Shawinigan for games three and four.
