Mongrain hired as goaltenders coach
General manager Martin Mondou took advantage of the end-of-season press conference to announce that Steve Mongrain is now under contract as goaltender coach of the Cataractes, succeeding Joël Duguay. Mongrain, who held the same position for Estacades Midget AAA for 13 years now, will be making his debut as a coach in the QMJHL.
“This is a dream and a proud moment for me to be part of the coaching staff of the Shawinigan Cataractes. Having the opportunity to work for the junior team of my childhood, it’s something very exciting, “says the man who has even played a few games for the Cataractes during his junior career.
His first encounter with Martin Mondou a few weeks ago has been very positive, especially because of the values and the way of thinking shared by the two hockey men.
“I say to all netminders with whom I work, the challenge and the goal is to have a keeper at the start of a season and advance throughout the year. Of course, we always want to win at the end of a year, but in terms of performance and individual development, both in terms of hockey that personally, all this is a daily challenge, ” argues Steve Mongrain.
