Greer lifts Huskies to victory; Cats pushed to brink
SHAWINIGAN, Que. – Trailling 2-0 in the series, the Cataractes were back at home for game three Sunday afternoon. After a coolant leak forced game two to span over Friday and Saturday, both teams were coming in tired and trying to dig deep to grab a victory in the third game.
The captain Anthony Beauvillier opened the scoring with his 14th of the playoffs at 5:26. Samuel Girard and Alexis D’Aoust got the assists as the home side lead 1-0. Antoine Waked would find the back of the net before the first 20 minutes expired giving us a tie game, 1-1, going into the break.
A scoreless second period ment we remained knotted up after 40 minutes of play.
It took three minutes for the tie to be broken in the third period. AJ Greer scored for the third straight game and put the Huskies in front 2-1 with help from Timo Meier and Francis Perron. The powerplay marker came at 3:46.
Chase Marchand made 22 saves and Greer’s goal held up as the game-winner to help Rouyn-Noranda take a commanding 3-0 lead in the Presidents Cup final series. Game four goes Tuesday night at Centre Gervais Auto with a 7pm puck drop.
