Girard score double-overtime winner; Cats take 3-1 series lead
SHERBROOKE, Que. – The Cataractes delivered a good performance again, beating the Phoenix by a score of 3-2 in double overtime on a goal by Samuel Girard to return to Shawinigan ahead 3-1 in the series.
Claude Bouchard’s troops have shown great character, winning by a score of 8-3 when they trailed 3-0 early in the game last night! Again tonight, the visitors delivered and leave Sherbrooke having not lost any road games in this series.
The Cataractes will attempt to eliminate the Phoenix at home no later than Friday as Stéphane Julien’s squad will be visiting at Gervais Auto Centre at 7:30.
Hurt in last night’s contest, Brandon Gignac was not in uniform for the Cataractes. The offensive powerhouse for Shawinigan nevertheless participated in the warm-up and it remains unclear whether he will be able to participate in the game Friday night.
The visitors started the game strong going to the locker room with a one-goal lead after 20 minutes. Alexis D’Aoust was the only one to thread the needle in the first twenty using his speed to beat Fitzpatrick halfway through the period. After a period of play, the Cataractes were leading 1-0.
Sherbrooke, however, tied it up in the second period. Captain Carl Neill brought the game even beating Cadorette. After two periods of play, both teams were knotted up 1-1.
We needed two overtime periods to determine a winner and it was Samuel Girard who gave victory to Shawinigan with a shot from the blue line.
