Gauthier scores twice; Desrosiers shuts out the Cats
The Shawinigan Cataractes were on the road for a tilt with the East Division leading Rimouski Oceanic at Centre Financiere Sun Life, Wednesday night.
Frederik Gauthier scored his 15th of the season, on the powerplay, at the 7:55 mark of the second period to make it a 1-0 lead for the home side. Samuel Morin and Christopher Clapperton had the assists.
In the third period, Alexis Loiseau potted his 34th goal of the year to put the Oceanic ahead 2-0. Eduard Nasybullin and Anthony Chapados got helpers on the powerplay marker.
Gauthier added an empty-netter with one second left in the game to seal a 3-0 victory. Deven St-Hilaire got the lone assist.
Philippe Desrosiers made 24 saves for the shutout, while Marvin Cupper stopped 33 in the loss.
