Gagne, Beauvillier lead Cats past Foreurs
VAL-D’OR, Que. – Saturday night the Cataractes travelled to the Centre Air Creebec to take on one of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League’s top teams in the Val-d’Or Foreurs.
After a scoreless first 20 minutes of play, Anthony Beauvillier hit the scoresheet first just 46 seconds into the second period. A powerplay marker and his 38th of the season, the goal came assisted by Samuel Girard and Brandon Gignac.
Danny Moynihan made it a 2-0 lead for the visitors later in the frame with an unassisted goal at 13:25.
In the first two minutes of the third period Gabriel Gagne potted back-to-back markers and pushed the Cataractes advantage to 4-0. The first of the two goals came on the man advantage.
Around the 13 minute mark of the final frame it was the Foreurs gaining a little bit of life as Dion and Aube-Kubel found the back of the net to cut their deficit in half.
However, Beauvillier’s empty-netter at 19:40 sealed the deal as the Cataractes skated away with a 5-2 victory on the road.
