Explosive offence powers Eagles past Cataractes
SHAWINIGAN, QUE. – After a win Friday night, the Shawinigan Cataractes were once again in action at home as the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles paid a visit to the Centre Gervais Auto.
Despite an early goal from Brandon Gignac 25 seconds into the game, the Cataractes could not hold off the offensive power of the Screaming Eagles.
Newly acquired 20-year-old Michael Joly, Pierre-Luc Dubois, and Anthony Sorentino all scored before the end of the first period to catapult the visitors into a 3-1 lead. Alexis D’Aoust got the Cataractes back within a goal in the second period but that is as close as they would get.
Evgeny Svechnikov made it 4-2 eight minutes into the third period, and Sorentino added his second of the night at 12:32 to push the advantage to 5-2. With 1:32 left to play Dillon Boucher put the nail in the coffin with an empty net goal to seal a 6-2 road victory for Cape Breton.
Between the pipes, Alexandre Belanger made 31 saves and earned the games first star while Mikhail Denisov stopped 17 shots in a losing effort for Shawinigan.
