Ehlers plays spoiler as Mooseheads eliminate Cats in overtime
The first round series between the Cataractes and the Halifax Mooseheads was set to conclude Tuesday night with the two teams going to battle in the seventh and deciding game. It took almost 17 minutes of overtime before Winnipeg Jets prospect Nikolaj Ehlers potted the series clinching goal to end the Cataractes season.
Dennis Yan scored a minute into the game to give Shawinigan an early 1-0 lead before Maxime Fortier responded to tie the game for the Mooseheads two minutes later.
Skip ahead to the third period where Olivier Caouette gave the Cataractes a 2-1 lead early in the frame.
Philippe Gadoury tied it up at 2-2 late in the period with under three minutes remaining to send it to the extra frame.
In the extra frame Nikolaj Ehlers potted the overtime winner to give Halifax the 4-3 series win and eliminate the Cataractes from the playoffs.
Marvin Cupper made 44 saves in the loss, while Eric Brassard stopped 36 for the win.
