Cats go winless on Abitibi road trip
The Shawinigan Cataractes had three games this week in their hunt for home-ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs. Two of those games were on the road.
First, the Cataractes welcomed the Sherbrooke Phoenix inside the friendly confines of Centre Gervais Auto for a Wednesday night tilt. The home side came out on top with a 7-2 victory on the heels of a hattrick by Giovanni Fiore. Gabriel Slight, Christophe Lalonde, Alexis D’Aoust, and Pascal Aquin each added singles.
Friday night Martin Bernard’s squad was on the road for the first of two games in the Abitibi area, beginning in Val-d’Or against the Foreurs at Centre Air Creebec. The game was a close one but it didn’t end the way Shawinigan would have wanted as they fell 4-3 to the Foreurs.
To end the weeks schedule, the Cataractes had a Saturday night date with the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies at Arena Iamgold. A two-goal third period was the difference maker in another loss, 3-0 to the Huskies. Rouyn was lead by Mathieu Lemay and Jean-Christophe Beaudin who each had a goal and an assist each.
Next game for the Cataractes is Tuesday, March 3rd when they travel to Drummondville to battle the Voltigeurs. Game time is set for 7pm.
