Beauvillier scores twice; Cats win fourth straight
Riding a three-game winning streak, the Cataractes were back at home Friday night for a tilt with the Drummondville Voltigeurs at Centre Gervais Auto. Martin Bernard’s squad exploded for a decisive 5-1 win over the visiting Voltigeurs in front of 2974 screaming fans at home.
It wasn’t until late in the opening period that the Cataractes opened the scoring. Anthony Beauvillier potted his 37th of the campaign to make it 1-0 for the home squad. Giovanni Fiore and Gabriel Sylvestre each picked up an assist.
Just moments later, Dennis Yan made it a 2-0 advantage with only four seconds to play in the period. The powerplay marker was assisted by Christophe Lalonde and Slight.
In the second period, the Voltigeurs would respond as Matthew Boucher scored the team’s only goal on the night at 8:07. Assists were given to Georgs Golovkovs and Kevin Laliberte.
Two minutes later, it was Beauvillier back at it again pushing his team-leading goal total to 38 and making it 3-1 Cataractes at 10:28. The shorthanded marker was unassisted.
Fast forward to the third period where Pascal Aquin put his 2nd goal of the year past Anthony Brodeur to give the home side a three-goal lead. Dennis Yan had the lone assist as the Cataractes took a 4-1 lead just three minutes into the final frame.
A couple minutes later, Lalonde scored his 19th goal on the season and the Cataractes pulled ahead 5-1. Beauvillier and Slight each had helpers.
Marvin Cupper was a wall between the pipes putting aside 44 shots on route the victory. At the other end, Anthony Brodeur struggled and made only 19 saves.
