Beauvillier helps Cataractes stay alive, force fifth game
SHAWINIGAN, Que. – Tuesday night at the Centre Gervais Auto the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies had the opportunity to capture the 2016 Presidents Cup as they held a commanding 3-0 series lead over the Shawinigan Cataractes. With a sold out crowd behind them, the Cataractes weren’t about to let their season end just yet.
The Cataractes got out to great start as they looked to keep their season alive. Alexis D’Aoust scored on a powerplay four minutes into the game and Alex Pawelczyk got a man advantage marker of his own 4:57 into the second period giving the home side a 2-0 lead.
Martins Dzierkals and Francis Perron responded in the second half of the frame to cut the deficit to 3-2 after 40 minutes of play. Nikolas Brouillard and Philippe Myers grabbed helpers on Perron’s powerplay tally.
In the third period Gabriel Gagne extended the Shawinigan lead to 4-2 a minute in, unassisted. However Rouyn-Noranda struck back as Myers and Fontaine found the net 40 seconds apart bringing the game back to even.
With four minutes to play in game four, the captain Anthony Beauvillier potted his 15th of the post-season as the Cataractes jumped back into the lead 5-4 in front of a sold out crowd. Dmytro Timashov would add an empty-netter as they avoided elimination and forced a fifth game.
