The loosing streak…comes to an end!
After loosing three games in the last week of action (5-2 against Québec, 3-1 vs Acadie-Bathurst and 4-0 against Drummondville), the Cataractes managed to stop the winless streak with a 4-3 win in overtime against the Drakkar. During that game, Shawinigan compiled a total of 47 shots on net!
1st period
Lots of speed and roughness early in the game for Daniel Renaud’s players. Samuel Blier, Antoine Demers and Vincent Senez were the forwards who spent the most time in the offensive zone. As for the physical aspect of the game, Simon Dubois distributed many body checks in his zone. Baie-Comeau’s players had to remember that it wasn’t going to be an easy night for them.
With 6 minutes left in the opening period, Samuel Asselin took a shot on net but couldn’t beat Justin Blanchette. Veteran forward Cameron Askew was standing at the right place to pick up the juicy rebound and give Shawinigan the lead.
2nd period
The second period of play wasn’t the best time for the local team as they gave up two goals. First, with over 10 minutes of play left in the period, Edouard St-Laurent scored his second of the season.
Then 8 minutes later, Simon Chevrier also scored his second of the season on the powerplay to give the Drakkar the lead.
Even though they were down by one, Shawinigan was on top in shots on net with 29. Val D’Or wasn’t too far with 26.
3rd period
Cameron Askew, who is litteraly on fire since his return in the lineup, gave the fans a reason to cheer when he scored an important goal when the Cataractes were on a two-man advantage.
Almost at the mid period, Baie-Comeau stroke when Ivan Chekhovich managed to get the puck past Fitzpatrick.
You thought that the Daniel Renaud’s team was beaten after that? Guess again! With only 37,5 seconds left in the game, 20-year old Samuel Blier let a wrist shot go past Blanchette to tie the game and sent it into overtime.
Overtime
Early into the overtime period, the crowd had the chance to see fast and skilled plays on bothh sides of the ice. The best chance came with a minute and a half of play when Samuel Asselin took control of the puck at his blue line and skated down the right wing to serve a magnificent pass to Jan Drozg who placed a laser over Justin Blanchette’s shoulder to give the Cataractes the win.
