Armada top Cats in back-and-forth afair
With the Armada in town, the Cataractes were looking to make it five straight in front of their home crowd at Centre Gervais Auto, Sunday afternoon.
Emil Aronsson opened the scoring at 4:29 with a powerplay marker to give the Armada the 1-0 lead. Guillaume Beaudoin and TJ Malancon assisted on Aronsson’s seventh of the season.
Just past the 10 minute mark, Blainville-Boisbriand was at again with the man advantage. This time it was Yvan Mongo making it 2-0 with his 11th at 10:06. Beaudoin and Aronsson had the helpers.
It took less than a minute for the Armada to strike again as Danick Martel potted his 47th goal of the year to push the lead to 3-0. Philippe Sanche and Nikita Jevpalovs had the assists on the Armada’s third powerplay goal of the first period.
Giovanni Fiore responded for the Cataractes late in the third, cutting the deficit to 3-1 at 19:44. Nicholas Welsh and Alex Pawelczyk picked up helpers.
In the second period, the Cataractes tied the game with two goals less than a minute apart. Gabriel Slight scored first at 13:17 and Dylan Labbe followed that up with the equalizer at 13:57. Welsh, Christophe Lalonde, Brandon Gignac, and Anthony Beauvillier all grabbed assists.
Beauvillier got his name in the goal column before the end of the period to give the home side a 4-3 advantage. Fiore notched the lone helper.
The Armada weren’t prepared to give up however. They found themselves once again on the powerplay and Jevpalovs beat Antoine Samuel for his 42nd of the campaign at 19:44. Sanche and Martel added to their point totals with an assist each.
Moving to the third period where we saw the visitors regain control of the game. Matteo Pietroniro scored just three minutes into the frame to restore the Armada lead at 5-4. The lone assist was given to Daniel Walcott.
Pawelczyk responded just before the 17 minute mark to knot it up at 5-5. A quick response for the Armada though, with Sanche netting the eventual game-winner just 30 seconds later.
The San Jose Sharks prospect Jevpalovs added an empty netter at 19:36 to make it a 7-5 final score.
