Otters’ Connor McDavid named CHL Player of the Week

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Connor McDavid of the Erie Otters is the CHL Player of the Week for the week ending March 9 after recording 11 points in three games scoring four goals with seven assists and a plus-minus rating of plus-8.

McDavid tallied back-to-back four-point performances to start the week and claimed first star honours in both contests.  On Wednesday night he scored a goal with three assists in an 11-2 win over the Plymouth Whalers, then scored twice with two assists in a 6-1 win over the Windsor Spitfires on Friday.  He finished the week on Saturday with a three-point performance scoring his 25th goal of the season adding two assists as second star of a 7-3 win over the Kitchener Rangers helping the Otters reach the 100-point mark for the second time in franchise history and first since 2001.

McDavid, a 17-year-old from Newmarket, ON, is playing in his second OHL season with the Otters and is eligible for the 2015 NHL Draft.  The 2013 OHL Rookie of the Year and member of Canada’s National Junior Team is fourth in the OHL scoring race with 93 points in just 53 games.

Also considered for the award this week was 2014 NHL Draft prospect Leon Draisaitl of the Prince Albert Raiders with five goals and four assists for nine points in three games, and Sebastien Sylvestre of the Rimouski Oceanic who scored four goals with four assists for eight points in three games.
