Glass and Studnicka score twice as Canada defeats Switzerland 7-3
POPRAD, SLOVAKIA – New roster additions Cody Glass (Portland Winterhawks) and Jack Studnicka (Oshawa Generals) made an immediate impact, leading Canada over Switzerland 7-3 at the World Under-18 Hockey Championship on Monday.
Glass (Player of the Game) had two goals and an assist while Studnicka also scored twice in the victory, improving Canada to 2-1-0-0 in the tournament.
Kyle Olson (Tri-City Americans) had a goal and an assist while Stelio Mattheos (Brandon Wheat Kings) and MacKenzie Entwistle (Hamilton Bulldogs) also found the scoresheet and defenceman Jocktan Chainey (Halifax Mooseheads) had three assists.
Goaltender Jake McGrath (Sudbury Wolves) turned aside 27 shots in the win as Canada outshot Switzerland 34-30.
Top NHL Draft prospect Nico Hischier (Halifax Mooseheads) had an assist for Switzerland in the loss as they fall to 1-0-0-2 in the tournament.
Canada sits one point back of Finland for first place in Group A. The two clubs will square off to decide first place on Tuesday at 9:30am ET.
