CHL Today: Rangers’ win eighth straight, streak improves to 11-0-2

- Chicoutimi’s Yanick Jean made more QMJHL history Friday night as he took charge of his 1,172nd game as a head coach, the most in league history.
- The November schedule for the CHL Game of the Week was announced Thursday and will feature three matchups – one from each member league – before the month concludes with the highly-anticipated CHL USA Prospects Challenge presented by Kubota on Nov. 26 and 27. Full story
CHL Top 10
- The Windsor Spitfires (2) got back into the win column after a 3-0 road win over Flint. Joey Costanzo made 21 saves as the Spits recorded their 11th win of the season. The Spits’ 67 goals are the most in the OHL.
- The Drummondville Voltigeurs (3) collected a point in a 3-2 overtime loss to Chicoutimi. The reigning QMJHL champions continue to lead the league with 12 wins.
- On the heels of a 5-2 victory versus Wenatchee, the Everett Silvertips’ (4) winning streak hit seven games. The Tips’ 13 wins leads the CHL, as do their 72 goals.
- Jacob Julien’s (WPG) third period goal stood as the game-winner as the London Knights (5) edged past the Soo Greyhound 4-3 for their fifth straight win.
- The Prince George Cougars (7) doubled up Kamloops 6-3 as their streak moved to 3-0-1. The Cougars’ 22 points are the second most in the WHL.
- The Niagara IceDogs (8) dropped a 7-3 decision to Barrie but continue to lead the OHL’s Eastern Conference with 10 wins.
- The Saskatoon Blades (9) saw its mini two-game winning streak snapped after a 7-6 loss to Vancouver. The Blades’ 10 wins are the most in the WHL’s Eastern Conference.
- A 7-2 win over North Bay gave the Brampton Battalion (10) a second consecutive victory. The Steelheads’ 38 goals against are the second fewest in the OHL’s Eastern Conference.
NHL prospect watch
- Beau Akey (EDM) had four points (1G, 3A) in Barrie’s 7-3 road win over Niagara that extended the Colts’ winning streak to four games. Furthermore, teammate Cole Beaudoin (UTA) had a pair of goals in the win.
- Carson Rehkopf (SEA) tallied four assists in Brampton’s 7-2 win against North Bay. Rehkopf, who scored 52 times last season, is tied for the OHL lead with 20 assists this year.
- In his season debut with Sudbury, Quentin Musty (SJ) had a goal and an assist in an 8-4 loss to Kitchener. A year ago, Musty finished fourth in OHL scoring with 102 points.
- Justin Poirier (CAR), who scored 51 times a year ago, had his first career four-goal game as Baie-Comeau defeated Gatineau 8-2. Poirier, who also added two assists in the win to establish a career high six points, is tied first in QMJHL scoring with 26 points. His teammate, Matyas Melovsky (NJ), added five points (2G, 3A) in the win.
- Hunter St. Martin (FLA) had four goals and an assist as Medicine Hat beat Regina 10-5. In 12 games this year, St. Martin has 12 goals.
- Koehn Ziemmer (LA) recorded the second hat-trick – and first since March 12, 2022 – of his WHL career in the Cougars’ victory over Kamloops. Ziemmer has 16 points (10 goals) in 10 games.
Nightly notes
- Kitchener’s Adrian Misaljevic exploded for six points (3G, 3A) in an 8-4 win against Sudbury. The overage forward has a team high 12 goals this season as the Rangers remained red hot as their streak was extended to 11-0-2 while their winning streak hit eight games.
- Louis-Antoine Denault stopped all 24 shots he faced as Quebec blanked Sherbrooke 5-0. It was Denault’s second shutout of 2024-25.
- Brady Birnie’s second hat-trick of the season powered Swift Current to a 9-4 win over Prince Albert. Birnie has 12 goals this season while he sits tied second in WHL scoring with 24 points. His teammate Clarke Caswell registered five points (2G, 3A)
- Gavin McKenna had six points (2G, 4A) while Bryce Pickford had a hat-trick in the Tigers win over the Pats. McKenna’s 29 points leads the CHL in scoring this season.
CHL USA Prospects Challenge
- Porter Martone (2025) recorded his first hat-trick of 2024-25 during Brampton’s 7-2 win against North Bay. The Steelheads captain has starred thus far this season where he leads the OHL in scoring with 29 points while his 15 goals rank second.
- Carter Bear (2025) had three points for Everett in their win against Wenatchee. Bear’s 24 points are tied for the second most in the WHL this season, as are his 13 goals.
- Cameron Schmidt (2025) had a pair of goals for Vancouver in a 7-6 win against Saskatoon. Schmidt’s 14 goals leads the WHL.
