- Canada White – that featured 19 CHL players – were crowned champions at the 2024 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge in Sarnia, ON., after a 3-1 win over Canada Red. Full story.
CHL Top 10
- The Windsor Spitfires (3) suffered a second straight defeat after a 5-1 loss to Saginaw. The Spits’ 12 wins are tied for the third most in the OHL this season.
- The Everett Silvertips (5) won their WHL best 15th game of the season after a 5-3 decision over Calgary. The Silvertips’ 88 goals are the most in the WHL too.
- A 7-1 win over Vancouver extended the Prince George Cougars’ (6) streak to 4-0-1 while it also earned them their 10th win of the season.
- A late third period comeback – where they scored twice in the final 5:04 – forced overtime but the Kitchener Rangers (7) fell 5-4 to Owen Sound. Nevertheless, the Rangers extended its point streak to 16 games where they are 13-0-3.
- Memorial Cup hosts the Rimouski Oceanic (8) earned a second straight win after a narrow 4-3 victory over Saint John. The Oceanic’s 12 wins are tied for the second most in the QMJHL’s Eastern Conference.
- The Niagara IceDogs (9) made it back-to-back wins after a 6-4 victory over Brantford. The IceDogs’ 13 wins are tied for the OHL lead alongside Kitchener.
NHL prospect watch
- Kevin He (WPG) notched his second hat-trick of 2024-25 to lead Niagara to a 6-4 win over Brantford. He has 16 goals in 18 games this year to sit tied second among OHL skaters.
- Sam McCue (TOR) had the overtime winner for Owen Sound in a 5-4 victory against Kitchener. McCue’s 16 points have already matched his total from last year while this year marks the third consecutive season he’s recorded double digit goals.
- Tomas Lavoie (UTA) scored twice in Cape Breton’s 4-3 overtime loss to Charlottetown. Lavoie’s 15 points are the eighth most among Q blueliners.
- Hunter St. Martin (FLA) notched his second hat-trick of the season as Medicine Hat defeated Moose Jaw 8-4. St. Martin has 17 goals in 16 games to sit tied second among WHL players.
- Koehn Ziemmer (LA) also tallied his second three-goal game of the campaign as Prince George took down Vancouver 7-1. Ziemmer has 15 goals and 21 points in just a dozen contests in 2024-25.
Nightly notes
- Grayson Tiller scored three times for Barrie in their comprehensive 8-1 win against Sudbury. Before Saturday night, the defenceman had just five goals to his name across 161 games with the Colts.
- Overage forward Gage Heyes had his first OHL hat-trick in Kingston’s 8-2 victory over Brampton and in the process reached the 50-point mark for his career with the Fronts.
- Eliott Simard tallied his first QMJHL hat-trick in Victoriaville’s 6-5 overtime win against Val-d’Or. Simard’s 10 goals this season are already a new career high.
- Samuel Beauchemin had a career high four points (2G, 2A) to lead Rouyn-Noranda to a 7-5 win over Blainville-Boisbriand. Beauchemin’s nine points this season are one off his career high.
- Gavin McKenna (2026) reached the 100-assist, 150-point plateau during the Tigers’ 8-4 win over the Warriors. McKenna leads the CHL in scoring this season with 37 points.
- Nathan Preston made 47 saves in the Tri-City net as the Americans collected an 11th straight win courtesy of a 7-2 victory over Red Deer.
CHL USA Prospects Challenge
- Michael Misa (2025) recorded his second hat-trick of the season and in the process became the first CHL player to hit the 20-goal plateau in 2024-25 as he led the Spirit to the a 5-1 victory versus Windsor. Misa’s 33 points also lead the OHL.
- Brady Martin (2025) had four points (2G, 2A) as he powered the Soo to a 6-2 win against Flint. Martin has seven goals and 16 points in 17 contests this year to lead the Greyhounds in scoring.
