CHL Today: Everett’s DuPont scores first career goal

Headlines:
- Landon Dupont, the ninth player in CHL history to be granted exceptional status, scored his first career WHL goal Friday as Everett beat Prince Albert 3-2 in overtime. DuPont has looked the part early on in his career with five points (one goal) in four games.
- Colby Barlow (WPG) made his Oshawa debut Friday night, albeit in a losing cause to Niagara. Barlow, who has passed the 40-goal threshold the past two seasons, recorded two shots and hit the crossbar in a 5-3 loss. He was acquired from Owen Sound earlier this week. Full story
- Beau Jelsma (Barrie), Konnor Smith (Owen Sound), Emmitt Finnie (Kamloops), Brayden Yager (Moose Jaw), Kyle Chyzowski (Portland), Tanner Howe (Regina), Mazden Leslie (Vancouver) and Evan Friesen (Wenatchee) were all named captains of their respective clubs Friday.
CHL Top 10
- Bryce Pickford scored twice but the Medicine Hat Tigers (2) suffered a third consecutive loss after they were doubled up 6-3 by Red Deer.
- The London Knights (3) dropped to 1-2-0 after they were beaten 5-3 by Erie.
- The Moncton Wildcats (4) improved to 3-1-1 courtesy of a 5-1 away win over Acadie-Bathurst as Markus Vidicek scored twice.
- Carlin Dezainde had a pair of goals to lead the Prince George Cougars (5) to a 5-2 road win against Seattle. The Cougars, who are 4-1-1, lead the WHL with nine points.
- Three third period goals powered the Halifax Mooseheads (6) to a 4-2 win over Quebec in their home-opener. Halifax’s five wins leads the QMJHL.
- Behind a three-point effort from Mathieu Cataford (VGK), the Rimouski Oceanic (7) defeated Cape Breton 5-2 to move to 2-3-0.
- The Brantford Bulldogs (8) were beaten 5-3 by Owen Sound. The Bulldogs are 1-2-0 early on.
- A 5-3 defeat on home ice to Niagara saw the Oshawa Generals (9) fall to 1-2-1 on the season. The Gens’ 17 goals against are the fourth most in the OHL this year.
- The Brandon Wheat Kings (10) collected a 3-1 win versus Edmonton and in the process, their fourth victory of the season. The Wheat Kings’ nine goals against this season are the fewest in the WHL.
NHL Prospect Watch
- Jacob Battaglia (CGY) matched his career high with four points (1G, 3A) as Kingston defeated North Bay 9-0. Battaglia has four multi-point showings this season where he’s tallied 11 points (four goals). Between the pipes, Nolan LaLonde (CBJ) made 21 saves to record his third career OHL shutout.
- Connor Clattenburg (EDM) buried the overtime winner as Flint collected a 2-1 road win over Kitchener.
- Maxim Massé (ANA) tallied four points (3G, 1A) as Chicoutimi claimed a 7-4 road victory against Victoriaville. Massé had 36 goals a year ago and has eight points (five goals) in three games in 2024-25.
- In his season debut, Cam Squires (NJ) had a pair of goals in Cape Breton’s 5-2 loss to Rimouski.
- Jakub Stancl (STL) recorded his first WHL hat-trick for Kelowna in a 5-3 loss to Spokane. Stancl was the 12th overall pick in the 2023 CHL Import Draft.
Nightly Notes
- Niagara’s Braidy Wassilyn scored his first two career OHL goals, and added an assist, to lead his side to a 5-3 road victory over Oshawa. The rookie forward was the fourth overall pick in the 2024 OHL Draft.
- Dylan Edwards had three points (2G, 1A) to lead Erie to a 5-3 road win over London. Edwards scored 22 times in 38 contests a year ago.
- Sam Oliver scored three times to power Drummondville to a 5-1 decision over Baie-Comeau. Oliver found the back of the net 35 times last season to help the Volts to a QMJHL title.
- Rouyn-Noranda’s rookie goaltender Samuel Meloche stopped 29 shots to blank Gatineau 4-0 and record his first QMJHL shutout.
- Rylan Gould had five points (2G, 3A) and Ty Coupland scored a hat-trick as Swift Current handed Saskatoon its first loss of the season with a 6-3 win.
- Matthew Gard had three points (2G, 1A), and Chase Wutzke (MIN) stopped 46 shots, as Red Deer moved to 3-0-1 on the season after their 6-3 victory against Medicine Hat.
