Canada opens WU18 with 4-1 win over Latvia

POPRAD, SLOVAKIA – MacKenzie Entwistle (Hamilton Bulldogs) had a goal and an assist to lead Canada to a commanding 4-1 victory over Latvia to open their 2017 World Under-18 Hockey Championship schedule.

Stelio Mattheos (Brandon Wheat Kings) scored a first period penalty shot as the two sides came out of the first frame knotted at one.

Canada climbed ahead 3-1 on second period goals from Maxime Comtois (Victoriaville Tigres) and Isaac Ratcliffe (Guelph Storm), tallies that came five minutes apart.

Entwistle would score a goal midway through the third frame to solidify the 4-1 final score and earn Player of the Game honours as Canada outshot the Latvians 50-18.

Ian Scott (Prince Albert Raiders) made 17 saves in goal.
