265 CHL alumni competing in 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs

265 Canadian Hockey League graduates continue their quest to hoist the Stanley Cup in 2020 by officially advancing to the Playoffs.

The total counts 119 graduates from the Ontario Hockey League followed by 86 from the Western Hockey League and 60 from the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

56 of the CHL’s 60 current clubs remain represented by at least one graduating player. The London Knights lead them all with 22 followed by the Erie Otters and Kelowna Rockets with nine apiece, then the Brandon Wheat Kings, Niagara IceDogs, Red Deer Rebels, and Soo Greyhounds each with eight. The Drummondville Voltigeurs are the QMJHL’s top represented team with six graduating players. Among the NHL teams, the Chicago Blackhawks lead the way with 21 CHL graduates followed by the Vegas Golden Knights with 20, then the Carolina Hurricanes, Montreal Canadiens, New York Islanders, and Tampa Bay Lightning each with 19.

Eight players who skated in the CHL during the 2019-20 season remain in the bubble including forward Liam Foudy (Columbus Blue Jackets/London Knights) who scored his first career goal during the qualifying round, Ty Dellandrea (Dallas Stars/Flint Firebirds), Peyton Krebs (Vegas Golden Knights/Winnipeg ICE), and Connor McMichael (Washington Capitals/London Knights) as well as defencemen Alec Regula (Chicago Blackhawks/London Knights), Bowen Byram (Colorado Avalanche/Vancouver Giants), Thomas Harley (Dallas Stars/Mississauga Steelheads), and Egor Zamula (Philadelphia Flyers/Calgary Hitmen).

An additional 12 players listed on rosters all graduated from the CHL following the 2018-19 season including notable talents like Kirby Dach (Chicago Blackhawks/Saskatoon Blades) who was the top CHL talent chosen in the 2019 NHL Draft, Memorial Cup champion Noah Dobson (New York Islanders/Rouyn-Noranda Huskies), World Junior captain Barrett Hayton (Arizona Coyotes/Soo Greyhounds), 2019 CHL Top Scorer Jason Robertson (Dallas Stars/Niagara IceDogs), and standout rookie Nick Suzuki (Montreal Canadiens/Guelph Storm).

With 16 NHL teams permitted to carry rosters of 31 players, CHL alumni account for over 53% of all talent still with the a chance to hoist the Stanley Cup as action continues in Edmonton and Toronto. Of note, seven of the eight teams who advanced to the Playoffs by way of Qualifying Round elimination series victories carried more CHL alumni than their opponents.
