2026 Memorial Cup preview – Silvertips vs. Rockets – May 25
Just three games into the round-robin at the 2026 Memorial Cup presented by Kubota and we’re already into clinching situations.
Both the Everett Silvertips and Kitchener Rangers can help their dream of a Memorial Cup title inch closer with a victory tonight when they meet at 9pm ET / 6pm PT live on TSN 1/3, RDS, NHL Network and Victory+.
For Everett, a win would guarantee them a spot in Sunday’s final. Courtesy of their win over Chicoutimi – coupled with a potential victory tonight – would give them all tiebreakers necessary to play for Memorial Cup glory no matter their result is Wednesday against Kelowna.
“That was our goal coming into the tournament [to play in the final] and obviously we take it step-by-step and we’re looking to get there tonight,” said Everett defenceman Luke Vlooswyck (PHI).
The Silvertips – who won their first WHL title to reach the Memorial Cup – beat QMJHL champions Chicoutimi 5-3 Saturday night in their tournament opener. Tonight, they’ll battle the OHL winners in the Rangers.
“They possess the puck well and they’re definitely going to be a challenge for us but we have everything we need in that room so we’re ready for tonight,” Vlooswyck said.
As for Kitchener, a win tonight guarantees them at least a spot in Friday’s semi-final. Furthermore, dependant on how Tuesday and Wednesday’s games go, they could also potentially advance right to the final as well.
“We’re excited but [head coach] Jussi Ahokas talks about it a lot but we take it one day at a time and our focus tonight is Everett,” said Christian Humphreys (COL).
The Rangers opened the tournament with a 5-0 victory over hosts Kelowna on Friday behind a 24-save shutout from Christian Kirsch (SJ).
“I thought all around we were good,” Humphreys said. “We got good goaltending, [Kirsch] was really good. We played heavy, we played fast and we’ll do the same tonight.”
Kitchener hasn’t played in two days and tonight begins a back-to-back with a tilt against Chicoutimi set for Tuesday night.
