2026 Memorial Cup preview – Rockets vs. Silvertips – May 27
The round-robin of the 2026 Memorial Cup presented by Kubota will conclude tonight with an all-WHL clash where the stakes couldn’t be higher.
Both the Kelowna Rockets and Everett Silvertips need to win tonight when they meet at 9pm ET / 6pm PT live on TSN 1/3, RDS, NHL Network and Victory+.
For Kelowna, the math is simple; win or their season is over. For Everett, a defeat keeps them alive but whether they go directly to the semi-final or the tie-breaker depends on the score.
“We’re looking forward to managing our emotions, our game and getting to what works for us,” said Everett’s Rylan Gould. “I expect nothing less than for them to be at their ‘A’ game but we’ll be at ours as well.”
If Everett fail to win tonight, they can still go directly to the semi-final to face Chicoutimi if they lose by just one goal. If the Rockets win by two or more, they will go right to the semis and send Everett and Chicoutimi to the tie-breaker.
“We’ve seen in the last day or two what the different situations are but for us, we’re just worried about getting a win and going from there,” said Kelowna’s Mazden Leslie.
Everett opened its tournament with a 5-3 win over Chicoutimi on Saturday but on Monday were beaten 6-2 by Kitchener. As for Kelowna, the hosts are looking for their first win after a 5-0 defeat to Kitchener on opening night and a 3-2 overtime loss to Chicoutimi on Sunday.
The teams have met nine times this season with the Silvertips winning on eight occasions. The Tips won all four games during the regular season while in the postseason, the WHL champions knocked out the Rockets in five.
“Not a lot of teams have beaten the team over there but we’re one of those teams that have done that,” Leslie said.
“There’s always new opportunities against teams that maybe you think you have unfinished business against but we’re looking forward to managing our emotions, our game and getting to what works for us,” Gould said.
