20 CHL Players Ready to #REPRESENT Canada at 2019 IIHF World Juniors
When the puck drops on the 2019 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship on Boxing Day, 20 CHL players will be representing Canada in its defence of world junior supremacy.
Anaheim Ducks prospect Maxime Comtois (Drummondville Voltigeurs) returns as the lone gold medalist from last year’s squad in Buffalo, NY. Hockey Canada announced Tuesday that Comtois will wear the ‘C’ under head coach Tim Hunter, being joined by alternates in Los Angeles Kings prospect Jaret Anderson-Dolan (Spokane Chiefs), Evan Bouchard (London Knights) and Ian Mitchell.
Canada eyes its 17th World Juniors gold medal following a 2-1 record in pre-tournament play that included a 5-3 win over Switzerland on December 19th, a 6-1 victory over Slovakia on December 21st and a 5-2 loss to Finland on December 23rd.
Canada will compete in Pool A alongside the Czech Republic, Denmark, Russia and Switzerland, hitting the ice for the first time on Boxing Day against Denmark. Other round robin matchups include Switzerland on December 27th, the Czech Republic on December 29th and Russia on New Year’s Eve. All games get underway at 8pm ET/5pm PT.
TSN and RDS, the official broadcasters of Hockey Canada, will once again provide wall-to-wall game coverage and analysis throughout the tournament
