Sportsnet CHL Saturday Showcase: Kingston at Oshawa
The Kingston Frontenacs (8-19-1-0) and Oshawa Generals (16-8-2-0) both come off Friday night victories and are all geared up for this week’s edition of the Sportsnet CHL Saturday Showcase.)
The East Division foes square off for the fourth time this season after Kingston took two of the first three meetings, scoring five goals in victories on September 21st and November 10th.
The Fronts had a career performance from Brett Neumann (18-18–36) on Friday as the fourth-year veteran scored three times and added two assists in a 7-6 win over the North Bay Battalion. Recent blue line addition Billy Constantinou (5-14–19) was also a factor, scoring and adding two assists as the Frontenacs snapped a three-game skid.
One of the OHL’s youngest teams, the Frontenacs recently said goodbye to franchise cornerstone Jason Robertson and are in the midst of a rebuild, bringing in young talent in the aforementioned Constantinou, Anthony Aguanno (0-9–9), forwards Ian Martin (1-5–6) and Lucas Rowe (2-2–4) to develop alongside 2018 first round pick Jacob Murray (1-1–2) on the blue line.
The Generals held on for a 4-3 road win in Guelph on Friday, getting a first star performance from Montreal Canadiens prospect Allan McShane (8-7–15) while Florida Panthers second round pick Serron Noel (16-16–32) had two assists.
Oshawa has benefitted from the strong goaltending of Boston Bruins prospect Kyle Keyser (13-4-1-0, 2.50, .929) this season while fellow Bruins draftee and team captain Jack Studnicka (10-21–31) serves as one of the league’s top 200-foot centremen.
Sitting 12 points back of the first place Ottawa 67’s in the East Division, the Generals recently added overage veteran Anthony Salinitri (14-14–28) to help bridge that gap. The Generals have won both of their prior meetings with Ottawa this season.
This afternoon’s contest gets underway at 3:30pm ET and can be seen across the country on Sportsnet as well as in the United States on NHL Network.
