Pats host Warriors on Sportsnet Sunday part of Regina’s Homecoming Weekend
A special Sunday edition of the CHL on Sportsnet coincides with a Rogers Hometown Hockey Tour stop in Regina, Saskatchewan as the Mastercard Memorial Cup host Pats host the rival Moose Jaw Warriors.
Holding down the top Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference, the 30-24-5-1 Pats will play their third straight contest against the Warriors on Sunday following a 5-3 win on the road Friday night. The Warriors have had Regina’s number this season, winning five of the six meetings on the schedule.
The Pats have been considerably better at home than on the road this season, playing to a 20-11-2-0 mark at the Brandt Centre. Edmonton Oilers prospect Cameron Hebig leads the team in scoring with 76 points (39-37–76) including 18 of those (9-9–18) since the Pats acquired him from Saskatoon on January 10th. Fellow overage forward Matt Bradley has been an offensive catalyst, scoring 33 goals.
On the blue line, Anaheim Ducks prospect Josh Mahura is fourth among WHL defencemen in scoring this season, posting 60 points (21-39–60) over 49 games.
The 43-10-1-2 Warriors enter action as the second-ranked team in the CHL. They’re led by 54-goal scorer Jayden Halbgewachs and 102-point man Brayden Burke while captain Brett Howden is back up to speed after missing time due to injury. Veteran forwards Justin Almeida and Tanner Jeannot both have over 30 goals on the campaign.
In goal, Brody Willms is the reigning Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week as he excels behind an accomplished defence corps led by Los Angeles Kings prospect Kale Clague.
RJ Broadhead and Sam Cosentino provide the call on Sunday as the Pats and Warriors square off at 2:00pm CT/3:00pm ET, a game that can be seen live on Sportsnet East, Ontario, Pacific and Sportsnet 360.
