Majors’ JP Anderson Named Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that JP Anderson of the Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors is the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending March 27.  Anderson opened the 2011 OHL Playoffs with three straight wins including two shutout victories with a goals-against-average of 0.33 and save percentage of .983.

Anderson has backstopped the Majors to a 3-0 series lead over the Belleville Bulls which began with a 17-save performance in a 4-1 win last Thursday night in Mississauga.  Anderson followed that up with back-to-back shutouts for the first time in his career making 21 saves as third star of a 1-0 win on Saturday night, and 19 saves as third star of a 2-0 win on Sunday afternoon.

Anderson, an 18-year-old from Toronto, ON, claims this award for the third time this season.  A San Jose Sharks prospect, Anderson was signed as a Free Agent earlier this season.  He led the OHL with a goals-against-average of 2.36 and was among the league leaders with a .911 save percentage while his six shutouts were top mark in the OHL this regular season.

Mac Carruth of the Portland Winterhawks was also considered after posting a 2-0 record including one shutout with a goals-against-average of 1.00 and save percentage of .972.  In the QMJHL, Jacob DeSerres of the Saint John Sea Dogs won both starts with a 0.50 goals-against-average and .971 save percentage while earning one shutout victory.
