Winterhawks’ Ty Rattie Named CHL Player of the Week
Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Portland Winterhawks forward Ty Rattie is the CHL Player of the Week for the final playoff week ending May 12 after scoring four goals in four games with a plus-minus rating of plus-4.
Rattie set a new WHL record for career playoff goals and was named MVP of the WHL Playoffs helping the Winterhawks capture the Ed Chynoweth Cup in a six-game series win over the Edmonton Oil Kings. He scored the game-winner in Game 3 of the series last Tuesday night, then recorded a hat-trick in Game 6 on Sunday including two shorthanded goals as first star of the 5-1 victory. The hat-trick gave him his 20th goal of the playoffs and 50th in 76 career playoff games in four seasons.
Rattie, a 19-year-old from Airdrie, AB, is playing in his fourth WHL season with the Winterhawks. The St. Louis Blues prospect led all WHL players in playoff scoring with 36 points in 21 games after finishing the regular season third in league scoring with 110 points in 62 games. He also ranks third all-time in WHL playoff scoring with 95 points in 76 games.
Also considered for the award this week was Mark Scheifele of the Barrie Colts who produced 12 points in four games including six goals and six assists, while Martin Frk of the QMJHL Champion Halifax Mooseheads recorded seven points in three games including two goals and five assists.
