Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that forward Dale Mitchell of the Windsor Spitfires is the Boston Pizza CHL Player of the Week for the week ending April 5. In three playoff games Mitchell registered nine points including five goals and four assists with a plus-minus rating of plus-4.
r
Mitchell led the charge for the Spits as they opened their second round playoff series against the Plymouth Whalers Thursday night. He scored two goals in game one and was named second star of the 6-3 contest that ended in favour of the Whalers. The high powered Spitfires offence rebounded in game two Saturday night on their way to an 8-2 victory. Mitchell assisted on the first two goals and scored the game-winner on the power play early in the second period. The offence continued to roll on Sunday and Mitchell had his best game of the week with a four-point night in the 8-1 win, giving the Spitfires a 2-1 advantage in the series. He was named first star of the game scoring two goals and two assists.
r
Mitchell, a 19-year-old from Mississauga, Ontario, recorded 68 points including 33 goals and 35 assists for the Spitfires in his fourth OHL season. He played his first three seasons with the Oshawa Generals. Mitchell, a third round selection of the Toronto Maple Leafs at the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, is currently second in OHL playoff scoring with 16 points and leads the league with nine goals in seven games.
r
Christopher DiDomenico of the Drummondville Voltigeurs had a five-point game Friday as first star in a 7-1 win over the Montreal Juniors. He finished the week with one goal and six assists for seven points to receive consideration for the award. Jonathon Blum of the WHL’s Vancouver Giants was nominated for scoring two goals and one assist for three points in a pair of victories. His two goals Saturday in a 4-1 win over the Spokane Chiefs earned him first star of the game honours and helped his team grab a 2-0 series lead over the Chiefs in second round playoff action.
