Wheat Kings’ Jayce Hawryluk named CHL Player of the Week
Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that 2014 NHL Draft prospect Jayce Hawryluk of the Brandon Wheat Kings is the CHL Player of the Week for the week ending March 2 after scoring six goals and four assists for 10 points in three games with a plus-minus rating of plus-6.
Hawryluk earns the weekly honour for the second time this season after helping the Wheat Kings earn five of a possible six points in the WHL’s Eastern Conference standings where they currently rank in seventh place. He collected three straight multi-goal games last week beginning with a three-point performance on Wednesday with two goals including the game-winner plus an assist as first star of a 6-2 win over the Lethbridge Hurricanes. Hawryluk was named first star again on Saturday with his first career five-point game with two goals and three assists in an 8-5 victory over the Saskatoon Blades before ending his week with a pair of goals as second star of a 4-3 shootout loss to the Swift Current Broncos on Sunday.
Hawryluk, an 18-year-old from Roblin, MB, is playing in his second WHL season with the Wheat Kings. Eligible for the 2014 NHL Draft, Hawryluk was ranked 42nd by NHL Central Scouting in their Midterm list released in January and leads his club in scoring with 64 points in 58 games.
Also considered for the award this week was fellow 2014 NHL Draft prospect Sam Bennett of the Kingston Frontenacs who scored four goals and two assists for six points in three games, and Montreal Canadiens prospect Jeremy Gregoire of the Baie-Comeau Drakkar who scored four goals with five assists for nine points in three games.
