Undefeated Rockets and Voltigeurs Meet Monday
Rimouski, QC – The Kelowna Rockets (1-0) and the Drummondville Voltigeurs (1-0) faceoff Monday night at 7:00 pm in a battle of the two remaining undefeated teams at the 2009 MasterCard Memorial Cup. The game will be shown live on Rogers Sportsnet and RDS.
Both teams enter the game well rested with the Rockets playing for the first time since Friday night when they beat the host Rimouski Oceanic 4-1. The Voltigeurs opened the tournament with a big 3-2 overtime win Saturday afternoon over the Windsor Spitfires. Both teams held full practice sessions this morning.
The Rockets’ Jamie Benn is tied for the league lead in tournament scoring with three points with Marc-Andre Bourdon of the Rimouski Oceanic. Benn scored the game-winning goal Friday and added two assists as first star of the tournament opening game. The Rockets will also look to defenceman Tyler Myers and Mikael Backlund to continue their solid play. Myers had a goal and an assist Friday with Backlund registering two assists.
The Voltigeurs had two-point games from Philippe Lefebvre and defenceman Patrik Prokop on Saturday to lead the club. Lefebvre had the tying goal with an assist while Prokop assisted on both the tying and game-winning goals. The Voltigeurs will look for contributions from regular season and playoff top offensive performers Yannick Riendeau and Danny Masse who were both held pointless in their first game.
Mark Guggenberger will start in goal for the home team Rockets with Marco Cousineau will be in goal for the visiting Voltigeurs.
