Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Kevin Poulin of the Victoriaville Tigres is the CHL Goaltender of the Week for the playoff week ending April 4. In two starts Poulin won two games recording a goals-against-average of 1.50 and save percentage of .945.
Poulin and the Tigres opened their QMJHL quarter-final playoff series Friday night on the road against the Quebec Remparts with a 4-1 win where he made 22 saves as first star of the game. In Game two on Saturday he made 31 saves including 15 in the third period to preserve a 4-2 win. The Tigres won Game three on Monday night by a score of 6-1 and now hold a commanding 3-0 series lead over the Remparts.
Poulin, a 19-year-old from Montreal, QC, is playing in his fourth QMJHL season with the Tigres. A fifth round selection of the New York Islanders in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, Poulin was named a second-team QMJHL All-Star after establishing a new franchise record for most career wins with 81 ahead of Mathieu Garon who won 74 games with the Tigres from 1995-98.
Also considered for the award this week was two-time regular season winner Martin Jones of the Calgary Hitmen who won three games including a shutout victory with a goals-against-average of 1.33 and save percentage of .937. The Hitmen currently lead the Medicine Hat Tigers 2-0. In the OHL, rookie Petr Mrazek won two games for the Ottawa 67’s to give them a 2-1 series lead over the Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors recording a goals-against-average of 1.41 and save percentage of .954.
