Spirit’s Hayden Hodgson named CHL Player of the Week
Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Saginaw Spirit forward Hayden Hodgson is the CHL Player of the Week for the week ending December 11 after scoring seven goals and two assists for nine points in three games with a plus-minus rating of plus-3.
Hodgson helped the Spirit win three straight games last week continuing the club’s solid play as of late where they’ve earned 12 of a possible 14 points over their last seven games. His week was highlighted by a career-high five-point performance on Sunday scoring four goals including the game-winner plus an assist as second star of a 6-3 win over the Oshawa Generals. Hodgson also recorded a three-point effort on Thursday collecting two goals and an assist as second star of a 3-0 win over the Sarnia Sting, then scored a goal on Saturday in the Spirit’s 4-3 shootout win over the Hamilton Bulldogs.
A 20-year-old from Leamington, ON, Hodgson is playing in his fifth career OHL season and second with the Spirit after being acquired from the Sarnia Sting last January. Originally a third round pick of the Erie Otters in the 2012 OHL Priority Selection, Hodgson has 17 goals and 15 assists for 32 points in 29 games and is approaching his career-high of 23 goals and 38 points tallied in 2014-15.
Also considered for the award this week was Calvin Thurkauf of the Kelowna Rockets who scored eight goals and two assists for 10 points in four games, and Matthew Highmore of the Saint John Sea Dogs who scored four goals and three assists for seven points in three games.
