Sea Dogs awarded Jean-Rougeau Trophy
SAINT JOHN, Friday, March 25, 2010 – The Commissioner of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, Gilles Courteau, was on hand tonight at Harbour Station to present the Jean-Rougeau Trophy to the regular season champion Sea Dogs prior to their first playoff game. It is the Sea Dogs’ second consecutive regular season championship. Saint John also received the Luc-Robitaille Trophy and the Robert-Lebel Trophy during pre-game festivities.
“The Sea Dogs enjoyed a spectacular season in which they registered a record-tying 58 wins, a record first established by the 1973-74 Sorel Éperviers and then equalled by the 1978-79 Shawinigan Cataractes. I would like to congratulate the players, the coaching staff as well as the members of the front office for their extraordinary season. I would also like to extend a special thank you to Sea Dogs fans that played an important part in the team’s success this year,” said the Commissioner.
Sea Dogs owner Scott McCain was on hand at Harbour Station to present the Luc-Robitaille Trophy (highest total of goals scored during the regular season) to team captain Mike Thomas. Saint John registered a league-high 324 markers this season (photo credit – David Connell).
Mr. McCain also presented the Robert-Lebel Trophy (lowest total of goals allowed during the regular season) to his captain. Saint John allowed a league-low 165 goals this season (photo credit – David Connell).
In Drummondville, Andrew Randazzo was awarded the Kevin-Lowe Trophy as the best defensive defenseman of the year. The Hamilton native registered 34 points and an excellent +30 rating this year. Randazzo received the Trophy from Volts’ GM Dominic Ricard (photo credit – Ghyslain Bergeron).
Teammate Domenic Graham received the Raymond-Lagacé Trophy as the defensive rookie of the year after recording 18 wins in 27 starts along with a 2.54 goals-against-average. Dominic Ricard awarded him the trophy (photo credit – Ghyslain Bergeron).
