Rockets’ Brodan Salmond named Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week
Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Brodan Salmond of the Kelowna Rockets is the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending February 12 after posting a perfect 2-0-0-0 record including two shutouts along with a goals-against-average of 0.00 and save percentage of 1.000.
Salmond turned aside all 41 shots he faced in a weekend home-and-home set against the Vancouver Giants. On Friday night he made 22 saves in the 6-0 home victory and earned third star honours, then made 19 saves on Saturday in a 5-0 road win for his third career shutout. The Rockets have now won three straight and seven of their last 10 climbing the WHL’s B.C Division standings into third place with a 33-20-4-0 record for 70 points trailing the Kamloops Blazers by four.
An 18-year-old from Calgary, AB, Salmond is playing in his second WHL season with the Rockets who selected him in the tenth round of the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft. In 18 appearances this season the sophomore netminder carries a 9-7-1-0 record with a 2.76 goals-against-average and a .896 save percentage.
Also considered for the award this week was Stephen Dhillon of the Niagara IceDogs who made 73 saves in two games posting a 1-0-0-1 record including a shutout victory with a goals-against-average of 0.96 and save percentage of .973, and Antoine Samuel of the Baie-Comeau Drakkar who made 52 saves in two games posting a 2-0-0-0 record with a goals-against-average of 1.00 and save percentage of .963.
