Remparts’ François Brassard Named Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week
Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that François Brassard of the Quebec Remparts is the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending March 10 after posting a 3-0-0-0 record with a goals-against-average of 2.00 and save percentage of .944.
Brassard made 101 saves last week backstopping the Remparts to three straight wins on the road beginning Tuesday night when he stopped 31 shots as part of a 2-1 victory over the second place Baie-Comeau Drakkar. On Friday night he made 37 saves and was named third star of the game in a 5-3 win over the Victoriaville Tigres, then closed the week Sunday receiving first star honours with 33 saves in a 3-2 win over the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada.
Brassard, a 19-year-old from Gatineau, Quebec, is playing in his second QMJHL season with the Remparts. Selected in the sixth round of the 2012 NHL Draft by the Ottawa Senators, Brassard is tied for second in the QMJHL in wins carrying an overall record of 30-18-2-2 with two shutouts along with a goals-against-average of 2.78 and save percentage of .909 which are both among the league leaders.
Also considered for the award this week was Daniel Altshuller of the Oshawa Generals who went 2-0-0-0 with a goals-against-average of 1.50 and save percentage of .958, and Cole Cheveldave of the Kamloops Blazers who was nominated for the second straight week this time posting a 1-2-0-0 record with one shutout along with a goals-against-average of 1.68 and save percentage of .938.
