Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Jaroslav Janus of the Erie Otters is the ADT CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending March 8. Janus went 2-1-0-0 in three games with a shutout win posting a goals-against-average of 1.32 with a save percentage of .960 making 96 saves on 100 shots faced.
Janus helped the Otters clinch a playoff spot for the first time in four seasons when he made 23 saves Wednesday night in a 3-1 win over the Owen Sound Attack. On Friday night Janus was outstanding between the pipes making a season-high 48 saves including 20 in the second period to shutout the Sarnia Sting with a 1-0 overtime win. Janus was named third star of the game with his third shutout of the season. His 48 saves also set a franchise record for most saves in a shutout win. His week would end Saturday on the road against the Kitchener Rangers where he made 25 saves in a 4-2 loss. The Otters currently sit seventh in the OHL’s Western Conference with 68 points.
Janus, a 19-year-old from Presov, Slovakia, is in his second OHL season with the Otters. He has a goals-against-average of 3.25 and save percentage of .907 with a record of 24-20-3-0 with three shutouts in 47 games this season. Janus competed for Team Slovakia at the 2009 World Junior Hockey Championships.
Andrew Hayes of the WHL’s Brandon Wheat Kings was considered for the award after posting a 3-0-0-1 record with a goals-against-average of 1.32 and save percentage of .952 in a week highlighted by a first star performance with 44 saves Wednesday in a 2-1 shootout loss to the Prince Albert Raiders. Two-time award winner Olivier Roy of the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles was nominated for consideration after winning both of his starts posting a goals-against-average of 2.00 with a save percentage of .932.
