Otters’ Devin Williams named Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week
Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that 2014 NHL Draft prospect Devin Williams of the Erie Otters is the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the playoff week ending April 13 after posting a 2-0 record including a shutout victory with a goals-against-average of 0.94 and save percentage of .968.
Williams made 60 saves in the final two games of the Otters’ second round playoff matchup against the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds backstopping the club to a four-game series victory and a berth in the OHL’s Western Conference Finals against the Guelph Storm. Williams earned his second shutout of the series in Game 3 last Monday night earning first star honours with 29 saves in the 2-0 victory, then finished the series with a 31-save performance in Game 4 helping the Otters to a 3-2 overtime decision.
Williams, an 18-year-old from Saginaw, Michigan, is playing in his third career OHL season with the Otters. Eligible for the 2014 NHL Draft, Williams was listed 15th among North American goaltenders by NHL Central Scouting in their Final Draft Rankings released last week. So far in the 2014 OHL Playoffs he carries a record of 8-0-1-0 with two shutout victories with a goals-against-average of 1.88 and save percentage of .934 after a regular season where he won 23 games including five shutouts with a goals-against-average of 2.57 and save percentage of .905.
Also considered for the award this week was Phoenix Coyotes prospect Brendan Burke of the Portland Winterhawks who went 2-1 in three games against the Victoria Royals in second round WHL playoff action posting a goals-against-average of 2.02 and save percentage of .933. In the QMJHL, Etienne Marcoux of the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada posted a 2-0-1-0 record against the Rimouski Oceanic with a goals-against-average of 1.72 and save percentage of .938.
