Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Torrie Jung of the Edmonton Oil Kings is the ADT CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending November 30.
Jung posted a 2-0-0-0 record this past week for the Oil Kings including a shutout win making 15 saves to beat the Moose Jaw Warriors on Saturday night 4-0. With his second shutout of the season, Jung was named the third star of the game. He also stopped 24 of 27 shots faced on Sunday night in a 5-3 home win over the Prince Albert Raiders. His goals-against-average of 1.50 and save percentage of .929 on the week have helped the Oil Kings win four straight games where they currently sit fourth in the WHL’s Central Division.
Jung, a 19-year-old from Nanaimo, British Columbia, is playing in his third WHL season and first with the Edmonton Oil Kings. Jung is among the WHL leaders in goals-against-average at 2.68 and has the fourth best save percentage at .911 through 14 games this season. Jung was selected in the seventh round of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft by the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Mike Murphy of the Belleville Bulls is the OHL nominee for the award this week. Murphy had a goals-against-average of 1.92 and a save percentage of .947 in two games highlighted by a 3-2 overtime win over the Guelph Storm on Friday where he made 32 saves and was the second star of the game. Nicola Riopel of the Moncton Wildcats is the QMJHL nominee this week. Riopel went 2-0-0-0 with a 1.50 goals-against-average and a .947 save percentage.
