Lecavalier and Richards together again in Rimouski
Vincent Lecavalier and Brad Richards are happy to be back together again in Rimouski.

Lecavalier and Richards played together for the Rimouski Oceanic and are Honourary Presidents of the 2009 MasterCard Memorial Cup, along with Rimouski native and Oceanic alumni Michel Ouellet. Sidney Crosby is also an Honourary President of the event but is playing in the Stanley Cup playoffs with the Pittsburgh Penguins. Crosby led the Oceanic to the championship game of the 2005 MasterCard Memorial Cup.

All three Oceanic alumni are happy to be back in Rimouski this week.

Lecavalier, the 29-year-old from Ile Bizard, Quebec, played two seasons with the Oceanic starting in 1996. He jumped to the NHL after being the first overall pick of the Tampa Bay Lightning in 1998 and is now their team captain. Lecavalier scored 217 points in two seasons with the Oceanic.

Richards, a 29-year-old from Murray Harbour, PEI, was a rookie with the Oceanic in Lecavalier’s final season in the QMJHL. Richards played three seasons with the Oceanic and helped them win the President’s Trophy as QMJHL champions and then the Memorial Cup in his final season in 1999-2000. He was a third round pick of the Lightning in 1998.

Richards and Lecavalier won the Stanley Cup together with the Lightning in 2004.

Ouellet was in his second season with the Oceanic when they won the Memorial Cup in 2000. He played four seasons in Rimouski before embarking on a professional career that started with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in the American Hockey League. He played two seasons with the Pittsburgh Penguins and a season with the Tampa Bay Lightning. He spent most of this season with the Manitoba Moose in the AHL.
