Huskies’ Nikita Kucherov Named CHL Player of the Week

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Nikita Kucherov of the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies is the CHL Player of the Week for the week ending February 17 after collecting 12 points in three games with four goals and eight assists with a plus-minus rating of plus-6.

Kucherov recorded two five-point games last week and extended his personal point streak to 12 games which is the second longest active streak in the QMJHL dating back to December 1.  On Wednesday night in Victoriaville he scored a goal with four assists as the game’s third star despite a 6-5 shootout loss to the Tigres.  He picked up a goal and an assist on Friday in a tough 5-4 overtime loss to the Drummondville Voltigeurs before finishing the week Saturday with another five-point performance scoring twice including the game-winner plus three assists as third star of a 7-5 win over the West Division leading Blainville-Boisbriand Armada.

Kucherov, a 19-year-old native of Russia is playing in his first QMJHL season.  A second round pick of the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, Kucherov won bronze at the 2013 World Junior Championship and has 44 points in just 22 games this season.

Also considered for the award this week was Philadelphia Flyers prospect Nick Cousins of the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds who had nine points in two games scoring twice with seven assists, and Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Morgan Rielly of the Moose Jaw Warriors who scored four goals and one assist for five points in three games.
