Saturday April 23, 2016
Linus Lindstrom scored in the third round of the shootout to put an end to Canada’s pursuit of World Under-18 Hockey Championship gold as Sweden advances to the gold medal game with a 6-5 victory.
Jordan Kyrou (Sarnia Sting) tied the score at five with 5:16 left in the third period to force overtime where Canada outshot Sweden 8-3 but couldn’t beat goaltender Filip Gustavsson, who made 54 saves in the game.
Lias Andersson and Linus Lindstrom provided shootout goals for Sweden while Brett Howden converted for Canada. Lindstrom’s winner sends Canada to the bronze medal game against the United States on Sunday while Sweden will square off with Finland.
