Canada earns 2-0 shutout win over Sweden at Ivan Hlinka

Canada’s National Men’s Summer Under-18 Team improved to 2-0 at the 2015 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup with a 2-0 shutout victory over Sweden on Tuesday.
Dylan Wells (Peterborough Petes) turned away all 21 shots he faced earning Canada’s first shutout in the event since Julio Billia blanked the United States in the 2013 gold medal game.
Michael McLeod (Mississauga Steelheads) opened the scoring for Canada midway through the first period finishing off a tremendous individual effort stickhandling around two Swedish defenders before burying his opportunity.
William Bitten (Flint Firebirds) added an insurance marker into the empty cage for Canada playing shorthanded in the game’s final minute.
David Quenneville (Medicine Hat Tigers) and Victor Mete (London Knights) both picked up assists in the contest.
Canada stands alone atop the Group A standings and will face Switzerland on Wednesday morning to finish preliminary round play.
Team Canada includes 20 players from the Canadian Hockey League including 12 from the Western Hockey League, six from the Ontario Hockey League, and two from the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. Canada has won gold at the annual summer under-18 tournament seven consecutive years.
