67s Top Draft Picks Signed and Ready for Camp
The Ottawa 67s Major Junior Hockey Club today announced the signing of its top three draft picks Tyler Toffoli, Derek Hartwick and Pieter Schinkelshoek as the club prepares for the commencement of training camp later this week.
Toffoli, a 16-year old, 175 pound forward who played centre and right wing for the Toronto Jr. Canadiens AAA Bantam team last season, is expected to see action on the wing with Ottawa. A gifted offensive player, Toffoli, drafted 7th overall, racked-up 68 goals and 174 points in 83 games for the Jr. Canadiens last season. He also tallied 14 points in the seven games it took the Jr. Canadiens to win the OHL Cup tournament last Spring.
Derek Hartwick, who will turn 16 this December, is a 6 1 left defenceman who was the first of two Ottawa picks in the second round. He scored 9 goals and totaled 43 points in 66 games with the Elgin-Middlesex Chiefs AAA team last season. Ottawa s next second round pick, 16-year old Pieter Schinkelshoek, hails from the London Jr. Knights where he compiled 25 goals and 57 points in 47 games last season. The gritty 185 lb. centre also recorded 153 penalty minutes.
67s players report for medicals and fitness testing Wednesday morning and hit the ice for their first practice session on Thursday morning. The teams first home-ice exhibition game will be one week from this Friday at the Civic Centre when the Kingston Frontenacs come to town.
The 67s regular season opens on the road in Brampton on September 19th and the home opener will be against Belleville on Friday the 26th at 7:30 PM.
