2014 MasterCard Memorial Cup Logo Unveiled
Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League in association with the host organizing committee for the 2014 MasterCard Memorial Cup are proud to unveil the official logo for this year’s championship.
The 2014 MasterCard Memorial Cup logo features Wolseley Barracks, for many years known as Canadian Forces Base London, established in the 1880’s and the site of the first military building constructed by the government of Canada.
“London is very proud of the City’s contributions to the military history of Canada,” said Trevor Whiffen, Chair of the 2014 MasterCard Memorial Cup Host Committee. “The Memorial Cup is named, of course, in honour of those who have served in our Armed Forces. It is therefore fitting that Wolseley Barracks be featured in the official logo for the 2014 MasterCard Memorial Cup in London.”
At its formation, Wolseley Barracks served as a home of the newly established permanent military force in Canada. It is now home to The Royal Canadian Regiment Museum which is found in the historic Wolseley Hall. As one of London’s most memorable military heritage pieces, and as a designated National Historic Site of Canada, the CHL and the London Knights are proud to feature Wolseley Barracks as a symbol on the 2014 MasterCard Memorial Cup logo.
The 2014 logo also features the traditional likeness of the Memorial Cup trophy atop logos for the CHL and MasterCard who has been title sponsor of the event for 16 straight years, along with a poppy at the centre of the logo symbolizing the event’s longstanding support of Canadian Armed Forces.
The 2014 MasterCard Memorial Cup marks the 96th edition of the prestigious national championship and takes place May 16-25 at Budweiser Gardens featuring the host London Knights along with the champions of the Ontario Hockey League, the Western Hockey League, and the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.
