2009 Home Hardware CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game Goaltenders Set for the Draft
Olivier Roy is the second ranked goaltender heading into the 2009 NHL Entry Draft this coming Friday June 26, 2009, at 7:00 pm at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec. He tops the list of four Canadian Hockey League goaltenders that competed at the 2009 Home Hardware CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game.

Olivier Roy – Cape Breton Screaming Eagles (QMJHL)

Olivier Roy posted a 2.80 goals-against-average with a .906 save percentage for the Screaming Eagles. He finished second in the QMJHL with 35 wins including three shutouts. He was named the QMJHL Defensive Player of the Week and the ADT CHL Goaltender of the Week three times this season. He was named Player of the Game at the 2008 ADT Canada Russia Challenge in Sydney, Nova Scotia. He holds the fourth longest shutout streak in QMJHL history at 167 minutes and 56 seconds. The record was established in his Rookie of the Year campaign last year where he also set league rookie records for wins in a season with 27 and shutouts with four. He was recently named to the final Hockey Canada Development Camp Roster in hopes to play for Canada at the 2010 World Junior Hockey Championships.

Edward Pasquale– Saginaw Spirit (OHL)

Edward Pasquale posted a 32-21-3-3 record for the Saginaw Spirit with a goals-against-average of 3.02 and save percentage of .911. He led the OHL in games played with 61, minutes played at 3,536 and shots against at 1,999. The third year junior represented the Spirit and the OHL’s Western Conference at the 2009 Subway OHL All-Star Classic and was named to the third all-star team this season. Pasquale was named Game MVP for Team Cherry at the 2009 Home Hardware CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game. He also won a gold medal with Team Ontario at the 2007 Canada Winter Games.

Scott Stajcer – Owen Sound Attack (OHL)

Scott Stajcer finished his rookie season with a 15-15-3-2 record with a 3.57 goals-against-average and a .906 save percentage which led all OHL goaltenders. In addition to being named the Top NHL Prospect at the Owen Sound Attack annual awards ceremony, Stajcer took home Top Goaltender, Rookie of the Year, and Playoff MVP honours. He was introduced to the Hockey Canada Program of Excellence this season when he was invited to the Goaltender Development Camp in early June.

Nathan Lieuwen– Kootenay Ice (WHL)

Nathan Lieuwen posted a 14-12-0-2 record as a rookie with the Kootenay Ice. He finished with a .885 save percentage and his 2.95 goals-against-average was second best amongst WHL rookie goaltenders. His three shutouts were also tied for top mark amongst rookies. Lieuwen backstopped Team Canada to a 6-3 win with 13 saves in the final game of the 2008 Under-18 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament. He also played for Team Pacific at the 2008 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.
